History and the arts collide in this beautiful coastal hamlet. Welcome to Water Mill.
The quaint community of Water Mill is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after hamlets in the Hamptons. There are no surprises about where Water Mill’s name came from — the seventeenth-century mill is still operational, and visitors can learn more about it at the Water Mill Museum. Local art and agriculture combine to give the hamlet a unique ambiance while still feeling homey. You can find many of the best things about the East End all in one community in Water Mill: stunning homes, beautiful natural spaces, and an eclectic downtown.
While Water Mill may be small, there is still plenty to do year-round. Take advantage of the natural scenery by visiting one of its pristine beaches. The community has a vibrant arts scene which you can experience by watching a performance at the famous Watermill Center or perusing work at the Parrish Art Museum. Try the local fare at one of the neighborhood restaurants or pick up fresh produce at the Green Thumb, a family-run farm stand.
You can find a mix of modern and traditional style homes throughout the community, but it wouldn’t be the Hamptons without some magnificent coastal estates. The diverse surroundings — from the waterfront to woodlands to farming fields — make the hamlet feel larger than its 13 square miles. The community is small and draws a lot of wealthy residents; because of this, most homes sell for seven figures more. Despite the high price point, the community stays true to its humble roots, making it an excellent place for a laidback Hamptons experience.
